Softly sleeping doggy,
laying at my side.
I wonder what is
happening inside your slumbering mind.
Silken paws
outstretched, nose at rest between.
Body long and graceful.
Alert still, sleek and lean.
Twitching and a
trembling, woofing and a whine.
I wonder what your
chasing as you race the line.
Your narrow body
quivering, feet kicking at my side.
Ears looking round
about, at silent noises in your mind.
Then with a muffled
growl, and a violent twitch.
A deepening sigh echoes
round and whistles from your lips.
And you look at me in
mute surprise awakened from your rest.
And then you turn and
close your eyes and fall back to sleep at last.
